Oktoberfest outfits: You guys looking good

Dirndl in Freiburg, a Maß in Hamburg and a pretzel in Dortmund. For a long time now, not only Munich has been in a celebratory mood in mid-September, but the whole of Germany, when it's time to "O'zapft is! The old Bavarian tradition was brought to life for a very simple reason. The old Märzen beer had to be used up as much as possible before the new brewing season, and so in 1810 a festival was created in October. And as is customary with festivals, people dress up. In Bavaria, October fans don't have to think twice about outfitting, because without traditional costume you're an absolute beginner on the Theresienwiese.

Classically dressed up

Ladies: Nowadays, the Dirndl selection is huge. As is always the case with a garment, you should choose the colour and length of dirndl that you feel comfortable in. A pretty dirndl goes well with a variety of shoes. If you like it traditional, combine flat Haferl shoes with your outfit. More elegant is the combination with pumps or ankle boots. With playful jewellery details, bows and buckles, they go perfectly with any Dirndl length.

Tip:Take a spare pair of ballerinas with you that you can whip out at any time when it's "Up on the benches!"

Men: For men, traditional lederhosen are a must at the Wiesn. Whether short or long, nothing goes without lederhosen. When it comes to choosing a shirt, anything goes. Two-tone check shirts are best. The combination of red and white is most often seen at the Oktoberfest, but blue, green or black and white can also serve as a substitute for traditional costume. Men should wear matching shoes with their leather trousers. Trainers or even business shoes definitely do not belong.

Tip: If you don't have classic Haferl shoes, go for boots or rustic lace-up shoes in the style of mountain boots.

Perfectly styled even without dirndl and lederhosen

Ladies You are not a fan of Dirndl? No problem. Why not combine a beautiful skirt with a white blouse - it looks innocent and traditional at the same time. Add a bit more pizzazz by wearing a hat or complementing the outfit with Oktoberfest jewellery. Add fashionable ankle boots or elegant sneakers and you have the modern meadow look.

Men: If you prefer to show off your calves during sports rather than in the beer tent, you can leave the Krachlederne at home. Instead, choose a pair of cloth trousers and combine them with a small-checked shirt. You definitely won't go wrong with dark blue and red checked vichy plaid. To look a bit like Oktoberfest, wear a waistcoat or jacket in the Trachen look with rather coarse lace-up shoes. Well, here's to you!
