Oktoberfest outfits: You look great!

Dirndls in Freiburg, a Maß in Hamburg, and a pretzel in Dortmund. For a long time now, it has not only been Munich that has been in a festive mood in mid-September, but the whole of Germany, when it's time to say “O'zapft is!” This old Bavarian tradition was created for a very simple reason. The old March beer had to be used up before the new brewing season, so in 1810 a festival was created in October. And as is customary at festivals, people dress up. In Bavaria, Oktoberfest fans don't have to think twice about what to wear, because without traditional costume, you're considered a complete beginner at the Theresienwiese.

Dressed up in classic style

Women: Nowadays, there is a huge selection of dirndls. As with any item of clothing, the same applies to traditional dress: choose the color and length of dirndl that you feel comfortable in!

The “secret CODE” of the loop

Insiders of the Oktoberfest scene know the special “dirndl code,” which allows them to communicate without words whether their heart is taken—or not! Dirndl bow on the left = single or unmarried Dirndl bow on the right = in a relationship or married Dirndl bow at the back, in the middle = waitress or widowed Mnemonic for dirndl bows Dirndl bow on the left: Ll – ledig links (single on the left) or Schleife links (bow on the left) – Glück bringt's (brings good luck). Dirndl bow on the right: The wedding ring is worn on the right.

These are the SHOE TRENDS for Oktoberfest 2025:

1. Classic ballerinas and Mary Janes

They are flat, traditional, and ultra comfortable! With this choice, you'll be perfectly dressed for every ride, the tent, and dancing. What's more, these styles can also be perfectly combined in spring and summer, so they won't just be “sitting in your closet, only worn once a year”! Depending on the color of your dirndl, you can also go for colorful styles and bright colors this season! Classic styles in black and beige, on the other hand, are in vogue all year round.

2. Stroke of genius: Cool boots for muscular calves

Rugged boots in the style of biker boots are all the rage and are making a comeback this year! And that's exactly why fashionistas are styling the iconic traditional look with this very style break! Give it a try—this look works wonderfull

3. Traditional and versatile: ankle boots

If you prefer a harmonious and feminine look, go for feminine, narrow ankle boots! Small kitten heels or block heels emphasize the delicacy of the look, while wide block heels have a more rock-chick vibe and also make the look more youthful. Classic ankle boots in a simple design distract less from the outfit and are also ideal for combining with business and fall outfits.

PERFECTLY STYLED EVEN WITHOUT A DIRNDL OR LEATHER TROUSERS

Ladies: Not a fan of dirndls? No problem. Why not combine a pretty skirt with a white blouse – this looks innocent and traditional at the same time. You can add a little more pizzazz by wearing a hat or accessorizing your outfit with Oktoberfest jewelry. Finish off your modern festival look with fashionable leather sneakers or iconic white sneakers.

Men: If you prefer to show off your calves while playing sports rather than in a beer tent, you can leave your lederhosen at home. Instead, choose fabric pants and combine them with a small-checkered shirt. You can't go wrong with dark blue and red Vichy checks. To give your outfit a little Oktoberfest flair, add a vest or jacket in a traditional style and sturdy lace-up shoes. Well then, cheers!

Men: For men, traditional lederhosen are a must at the Wiesn. Whether short or long, you simply can't go without lederhosen. When it comes to choosing a shirt, anything goes. Two-tone checked shirts are best. The most common combination at Oktoberfest is red and white, but blue, green, or black and white can also be worn as a substitute for traditional clothing. Men should definitely wear shoes that match their lederhosen. Sneakers or even business shoes are definitely not appropriate.

Tip: If you don't have classic brogues, go for boots or rustic lace-up shoes in the style of mountain boots. Combined with cable-knit socks and coarse wool, the look goes perfectly with traditional costumes.
